McGowan on target as Hearts salute in Edinburgh derby

Ryan McGowan has scored his first Scottish Premier League goal and first for Heart of Midlothian in the 3-1 Edinburgh derby win over Hibernian.

The 22-year old Australian defender/midfielder gave Hearts the lead at Easter Road in the 58th minute as Paulo Sergio's side made it six wins from their last seven meetings with Hibs.

McGowan nodded home from the goal-line after Andy Webster's header was knocked away by Hibs keeper Graham Stack, who had earlier saved a penalty from Ian Black.

Moments after McGowan's opener, the home side leveled when Hearts defender Marius Zaliukas deflected the ball into his own net before Webster and Rudi Skacel scored late goals to give the visiting Jambos all three points.

The goal was McGowan's first ever for Hearts and just his second senior goal since his maiden effort for first division club Ayr United in the 2009/10 season.
