Carlisle United have sacked Neil McDonald just one game into the new season, making him the first managerial casualty of the season.
McDonald took over at Brunton Park 12 months ago after impressing in his role as first-team coach at Bolton Wanderers.
He led Carlisle to eighth place in League One and saw his side draw 1-1 at promoted Walsall on the opening day of the new campaign.
But he has now been dismissed, with Carlisle claiming the board has lost confidence in McDonald.
A statement from the club read: "The board of Carlisle United Football Club regret to say that they have lost confidence in Neil McDonald and are terminating his contract forthwith.
"They thank him for his hard work at the club and wish him all the best for his future career.
"Greg Abbott has been appointed as caretaker manager."
