McDonald in the goals as Middlesbrough and Ipswich play out six-goal thriller

Scott McDonald was on the scoresheet as Middlesbrough gave up a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

The Australian striker struck 'Boro's second goal to make it 2-1 in the 43rd minute with a strong finish from six yards at Portman Road.

The match didn't start well for the visitors as Grant Leadbitter opened the scoring after just six minutes with a well-struck shot from 20 yards but Tony Mowbray's men answered through Andy Halliday a minute before McDonald put them ahead.

The Teessiders managed to get two goals ahead when Andrew Taylor grabbed his side's third in the 51st minute but not to be outdone, the Tractor Boys roared back to life and gave themselves hope through talented teenager Connor Wickham who headed home 13 minutes later.

Ipswich then salvaged a point thanks to Leadbitter with his second in the 76th minute to tie it up at 3-3 and there were no further goals in a scintillating match in England's Championship.

The goal was McDonald's eighth of the season but could do nothing to stop Middlesbrough falling one spot to 18th after Coventry City won at Portsmouth.
