McDonald and Celtic make opening day trip to Aberdeen

In the Scottish Premier League's opening weekend, Celtic travel up to Aberdeen to take on The Dons at Pittodrie Stadium.

Led by Australian international striker Scott McDonald, the Hoops will be desperate to avenge the title loss of last season and kick-start their campaign of redemption with a big away win.

McDonald will joined by New Zealand national team forward Chris Killen who has been in brilliant goal scoring form during pre-season.

Danny Invincibile will be attempting to vindicate his midweek Socceroos call-up with a strong performance for Kilmarnock against last term's 9th-placed team Hamilton Academical.

The 30-year old will be up against fellow Aussies Trent McClenahan and James Wesolowski (on loan from Leicester City).

Elsewhere in the UK, Nick Carle will be hoping for some game time with Crystal Palace who meet Bristol City at Ashton Gate in England's Championship whilst Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams and goalkeeper Brad Jones will be intent on keeping a clean sheet against Swansea City at Liberty Stadium.

And Adam Federici will be pushing for a start in goals for Reading who are away to Newcastle United at St James' Park.

In England's League One, former Melbourne Victory shot-stopper Michael Theoklitos may find himself on the substitutes bench after letting in seven goals against Colchester United on debut, especially after Tottenham loanee Ben Alnwick kept a clean sheet in the Carling Cup against Yeovil Town midweek.

Leeds United recruit Patrick Kisnorbo will be buoyed by representing Australia in Ireland on Wednesday and will be doing his utmost to keep Wycombe Wanderers quiet as Neil Kilkenny will be busy in midfield in the clash at Adams Park.
