Steve McClaren says taking the Newcastle job was never on his agenda and he is 100 per cent focused on managing ChampionshipDerby County. Asked if he would be tempted to take the reins at troubled St James' Park next season, McClaren told Sky Sports News HQ: "It has never crossed my mind. I've been saying it for months since January - my total focus is on Derby.
"There has been a lot of speculation. I reiterate what I said on Saturday after the game and what I said to the board and players on Tuesday.
"I am 100 per cent committed to finishing the job here. After the disappointment at the weekend it's a big job and something over the next three or four days we are planning to put right with the players, the staff and board and everybody here.
"I hear the speculation and I see it but I'm 100 per cent committed to Derby County at this point. I wouldn't be here talking and planning and trying to get over the anger of the last few days.
"It's been a very difficult couple of days - from losing the match and getting over the disappointment. It's been very tough. I met with the players on Tuesday, the staff today (Wednesday) and I'm seeing the board on Thursday.
"I'm sure by the end of the week everything will be cleared up and we'll be looking ahead to the future."
