Former England coach Steve McClaren wants the England U21 job.
McClaren, having won a title in Holland, he is also one of the few English coaches to have succeeded overseas and he demonstrated a track record in youth development at Middlesbrough.
He worked under incoming FA chairman Greg Dyke when he was a director at Manchester United.
The Sunday Times says the 52-year-old believes his CV makes him uniquely suitable to succeed Stuart Pearce.
