Everton midfielder James McCarthy says they can still finish in the top four.
McCarthy insists Everton are ready to pounce and take Arsenal's top four spot if their drubbing at Chelsea sparks a malaise.
He said: "We have a few games before then. The gaffer is confident enough. We will have a go. We have them here and a lot of teams won't like coming here.
"We gave it our best shot in the league against Arsenal and we were disappointed not to take three points. It's going to be tough but we will give it our best shot. We have never written ourselves off (in the top four race). We will keep playing until it is mathematically not possible.
"We have got eight points between us and Arsenal and we have a game in hand, Arsenal to come here. It's still open.
"They will be looking over their shoulder now. Obviously they will be a bit worried. But we take it a game at a time and we have a big game against Newcastle."
