James McArthur is delighted for Wigan Athletic teammate Callum McManaman after his stunning strike in the draw with Tottenham.
McArthur is confident McManaman will make headlines for his attacking skills in future after the controversy around his challenge on Newcastle United's Massadio Haidara.
McArthur, 25, said: "Callum is a strong character. A lot of bad things got said about him over the Haidara tackle, but it was a challenge to try and win the ball.
"He's a winner, but he would not intentionally hurt somebody. He's not that type of person.
"As for dealing with it, he's doing his talking on the field and that's the most important thing.
"His goal was a great example of that. As soon as his shot left his foot, it was in all the way.
"To generate that much power with his weaker foot as well shows you how much confidence he has, That's what we need - people to step up and play at the top of their form. Hopefully, he can keep doing that between now and the end of the season."
