Chancel Mbemba has called on the support of the Newcastle United supporters as the team prepares for their all-important relegation battle.
The Magpies sit 18th on the Premier League table after 20 matches and are being widely tipped to experience their second drop since 2009.
Defender Mbemba, who arrived at St James' Park from Anderlecht in the summer, says the playing group are doing everything in their power to try and turn things around for the north east club but believes their task would be made a little easier if the Toon faithful really get behind their plight.
"I cannot predict the future," he said.
"What I can promise is that we are doing everything to get out of this position.
"We need to continue to work hard, together, to get results and make the fans happy. We have to keep motivation high and work hard."
Mbemba added: "We need every single fan behind us – they can be our 12th man.
"We need to give them something to cheer and we need to react to their encouragement."
Steve McClaren's side next take on fifth-placed Manchester United at home on Tuesday night.
