Kylia Mbappe has denied claims of blindsiding PSG with his letter about their contract renewal.

Mbappe has stunned football by informing PSG, by written communication, that he will not be taking up the 12 month option in his current deal - which runs to 2024.

It leaves PSG with the option of either selling him this summer or allowing Mbappe to leave for nothing in a year's time.

For his part, Mbappe insists PSG have long known his plans: "The board of directors has been informed since 15 July 2022 of my decision not to renew beyond 2024, and the letter sent on Monday is only intended to confirm what I had already told them.

"I have never discussed an extension with PSG."

Real Madrid are regarded as favourites for Mbappe, though Manchester United, which are about to be taken over by Sheikh Jassim, could come into equation given their new Qatari ties.
