Mawson determined to be Swansea leader

Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson has expressed his desire to become a leader at the Liberty Stadium.

Mawson made a move up to the Premier League from the English Championship last season by swapping Barnsley for Swansea City and the defender acquitted himself well in the English top flight, playing a key role in the Swans' successful bid to avoid relegation.

Mawson has recently been speaking to The Guardian regarding his debut campaign in the Premier League and has stated he is now looking to become a leading figure at Swansea City for years to come.

He said: "The supporters have taken to me and I've taken to them. It's a great club. When I signed I knew Swansea's philosophy and I think from the back end of the season we got back to that style. But what I didn't know when I joined was what the area would be like. But I love it there. I really do. And I don't see myself being anywhere else for a long time.

"I want to be seen as a young leader. I want to be that player that in five or six years' time young players come to me and ask for advice."
