Matic admits he had to leave Man Utd; claims ten Hag 'plays right way'

Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic admits that his reasons for leaving Erik ten Hag's Manchester United for Jose Mourinho's Roma were due to playing time.

Matic enjoyed his spell with United immensely, despite not winning a trophy in five seasons.

The 34-year-old was given a free transfer, as he wanted to play for a team where he was first choice.

"I needed a new challenge because I never started playing football for money, it was because I enjoyed being on the pitch," Matic told The Times.

"I wanted to play more, so once I had the call from Jose, I was quite sure I made the right decision."

Matic added on ten Hag: "I see the way he wants to play and I think that's the right way."
