Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is determined to see more youngsters graduating from the club's academy.
Leighton Baines, now of Everton, is on the verge of becoming the first player to graduate from the Wigan Athletic youth system to play in a World Cup finals.
Martinez told the Wigan Observer: "Over the last 12 months we have focused a lot of attention in the 18-22 group, and we have to make sure we carry on developing them.
"I feel we should be getting players through into the first team on a yearly basis, and it's been really refreshing to see how the reserves have played this year.
"They have improved hugely and showed the kind of concepts that we are trying to get through to the youngsters.
"We have many youngsters at the age of 18-22 that have the potential to play in the first team - now it's down to them."
