QPR captain Joey Barton has attacked fans' favourite Rodney Marsh on Twitter.
The Manchester Evening News reports Barton called Marsh a "skint, washed-up former player full of hatred" during a tirade on the social media site.
He also claimed the modern day game is much harder to succeed in than it was in bygone eras.
The feud erupted when Barton revealed he knew nothing about his agent apparently approaching French club Marseille over a move from current club QPR, where Marsh is also considered a legend.
Despite a swathe of criticism from both QPR and City fans, telling Barton he 'wasn't fit to lace Marsh's boots' he said: "He's a bitter man.
"He has had far too much to say in recent years.
"He is a 'QPR legend' and 70yrs old, so out of respect I'll leave him now."
But Marsh delivered the knockout blow below:
