Olympique Marseille went well down the road to signing Liverpool fullback Alberto Moreno in January, it has been revealed.

OM chief Alberto Zubizaretta admitted publicly they were trying to sign the Spaniard during the winter market.

And La Provence says a deal was close, but Moreno's personal terms simply proved too rich.

Zubizarreta attempted to talk down the defender's demands, but with no compromise being shown, he was forced to pull out of talks.

Off contract in June, Moreno is now under consideration at Barcelona as cheap cover for Jordi Alba.
