Former Portugal midfielder Maniche is backing a move for Roma coach Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is a candidate to succeed Fernando Santos as Portugal coach after a disappointing World Cup.

Maniche, who played for Mourinho at Chelsea, told Radio Renascenca: "José Mourinho is perfect for becoming the coach of Portugal, for all that he has already conquered.

"He has already been with the best clubs in the world, has won titles in all the championships and misses the national team.

"He is an experienced coach who is very prepared for difficulties because he knows our football and football abroad, he is intelligent and knows how to deal with young players."
