Mancini disappointed Rooney will miss City v United FA Cup clash

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini admits he is disappointed that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been banned from the FA Cup semi-final. Rooney was this morning handed a two-match ban for using abusive and obscene language during a goal celebration against West Ham United on Saturday, forcing him out of the FA Cup final four clash at Wembley Stadium on April 16.

Mancini said it was a shame the England striker, who is regaining his top form culminating in the winning goal in last night's Champions League clash with Manchester United, would miss even if it was an advantage to his Blues.

"We are disappointed. When you play in games like this, it is important that all of the best players play. But if he can't play, okay," he told Sky Sports News with a wry smile.

Asked if the punishment was to harsh, Mancini said: "I don't know. I think the managers and players here have a lot of respect for the referee and the FA."
