Man Utd's Valdes thrilled to experience Old Trafford...even in front of 5k

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes was happy to experience Old Trafford playing for the reserve side in front of only 5,000 people.

The Spaniard has been accustomed to playing in front of more than 80,000 fans on the hallowed turf at the Nou Camp throughout his career but since moving to United in January this season, Valdes has not made a single appearance for the first team.

In order to maintain his fitness levels, the former Barcelona star has instead featured for the United reserve team - which recently attracted a crowd of just 5,000 - but the 33-year old has stated that he is thrilled at the opportunity to play at Old Trafford despite the low attendance.

"This is the way now. When you don't play in the first team here in England, it's usually better to play in the reserves," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"It's not something we do in Spain but you must accept it and focus on your performance because it is good for your game rhythm."

Valdes also recalled the last time he played at the Theatre of Dreams when Paul Scholes fired past him in the Champions League semi-final back in 2008, sending United to the final.

"Yes, the first time since that Scholes day! It was good to play there again," he added.

"It's a very nice stadium, an important stadium in the history of football and I think it's a dream for any player to play in this kind of arena."
