Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to hand Paul Scholes, 34, the chance to complete his set of Manchester United winner's medals alongside the youngsters in today's Carling Cup final.
The former England star missed out against Wigan in 2006 when a blurred vision problem left him sidelined for the second half of the 2005-06 campaign.
Scholes did play in the 2003 final against Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium, but that day goals from Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen secured a 2-0 victory for Gerard Houllier's team.
