Manchester United's official website have sparked transfer speculation around Robin van Persie. The Mirror reports he was left out of a list of potential captains on the club's official site.

With current skipper Nemanja Vidic set to depart Old Trafford this season, the club uploaded a feature entitled 'Reds' leadership credentials'.

It examined five possible candidates to take the armband, with Van Persie strangely omitted.

Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and David De Gea were all on the list, but there was no place for the Dutchman.
