Manchester United are eyeing Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The Daily Express says Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels remains the Reds' primary transfer target, but the cost he would incur could be too large for United's money men to sanction a bid.

Otamendi is reported to be valued at £40m by Valencia, while Hummels would cost at least £10m more.

The Argentinean is good friends with Angel Di Maria and United's rapidly growing South American contingent could play a key role in tempting Otamendi to Old Trafford.
