Man Utd striker Rooney satisfied wth England runout

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was happy with his runout against Platinum Stars yesterday.

Jermain Defoe converted a cross from skipper Steven Gerrard for the third minute opener.

Rooney set up Joe Cole - the only England player to complete 90 minutes - for the second after the interval and then scored the third himself.

Rooney's contribution to England's match-sealing goals will have boosted the 24-year-old's confidence.

And while the team did not exactly look like world champions this evening, Rooney feels they will be better for the outing.

"It was a good run-out, we needed to get the game in and to play 45 minutes felt good so I was happy," Rooney said.

"I think we got out of it what we needed. I would have liked to have got a bit more of a game but I was happy with the 45 minutes.

"We are ready - these are preparation games for us for the big one now coming up on Saturday.

"I just can't wait now. The sooner it comes, the better."
