Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney insists England's players are a match for any in the world.
But he says they must be more ruthless during World Cup games.
"Of course we can play as well as the Spanish or the foreign players can," he told the Daily Mail. "People like Steven (Gerrard) and Frank (Lampard) have done it for years. We have talented players, but I think if anything we are a bit too honest.
"We are honest in the way that we play the game. Sometimes that can hold you back. Sometimes we have to be a bit cuter.
"You see the way some teams play. If they are being counter-attacked they will just bring a player down where we will try and run back the full length of the field and try and get the ball.
"I think we have to be a bit more tactical, you know. We have to be cute about how we do that.
"The amount of foreign lads who play in the Premier League now, there is a good mix. We have seen that change. It was different when I was growing up and first playing in the Premier League. Now we play with them and we know what they can do."
