Manchester United star Wayne Rooney still hopes to rescue his marriage.
The Mirror says Man Utd insiders insisted the star would do all he could to avoid a divorce, which could cost him half of his estimated £33m fortune.
One said: "He knows he has been a mug but thinks he can fix the marriage.
"Wayne loses himself in his football and does not think about anything else when he is on the pitch.
"But the last thing he wants is a divorce. He is desperate to avoid that.
"He knows what Fergie (Sir Alex Ferguson) thinks about this kind of thing and he will tell him in no uncertain terms when he sees him."
