Manchester United are some way off meeting Wigan Athletic's asking price for winger Antonio Valencia.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is holding out for more than £18million for the 23-yearold Ecuadorian but United only want to pay £12m.
That has led to a stand-off with United who are confident they now no longer have to worry about a threat from Real Madrid who have downgraded their interest in the player.
