Man Utd's van Persie rejects claims he is past it

Robin van Persie has denied suggestions that his form has taken a hit because of his age.

The Manchester United striker has struggled in the early stages of the season with many critics alluding to the fact that his output has dropped off because he is now 31 years of age.

However, the Holland international has scored three goals in his past three Premier League outings to take his tally to six from 14 appearances for the campaign which he feels has proven some of the negative press wrong.

"When you hit 30 and you're having a bad spell everyone say it's because you're 30 or 31 and things might be over for you," van Persie told MUTV.

"I live a quiet life for my football and I'm almost convinced now that I will play for many years to come at the highest level, at least that's what I want and what I'm aiming for.

"The age thing is not an issue for me at all."

He added: "It was a hard start to this season.

"It's hard to maybe pick things up straight away after the World Cup. It can be tough to really get back to your best form.

"But over the past couple of weeks I've been feeling very well physically."
