Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admitted that his team were lucky to win on Monday night.
The Red Devils edged Southampton 2-1 at St Mary's Stadium courtesy of a Robin van Persie double but it was not a performance worthy of a win according to van Gaal.
"In the second half, okay, we have not given a lot away but Southampton were the better team," said the Dutchman.
"The performance was not good enough ... we were the lucky team this evening."
Nevertheless, United produced their fifth victory on the trot which saw them move up the Premier League table to third.
