Man Utd's 'unwell' Smalling forced off in England's friendly with Italy

Chris Smalling was forced off in the first half of England's friendly with Italy because he was feeling 'unwell'.

The Manchester United defender was down on all fours at one point before making way for club teammate Michael Carrick just before half-time at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

It appeared as though Smalling had copped an innocuous injury but a FA spokesman has suggested he was unwell and not injured in what if a major boost for United.

Smalling started alongside Everton's Phil Jagielka in central defence before Phil Jones, who had begun in a holding midfield role, pushed back to allow Carrick to slot in.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw after Andros Townsend cancelled out Graziano Pelle's earlier opener with a wonderful strike in the 79th minute.
