Man Utd's Rooney nets twice as England silence Scotland

England have beaten Scotland 3-1 in an international friendly at Celtic Park in Glasgow on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions were clinical in their triumph over their Auld Enemies with captain Wayne Rooney scoring twice and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also on target.

The Glasgow locals produced an intimidating atmosphere at Parkhead but Rooney's late goal, after Andrew Robertson had restored some hope with seven minutes remaining, silenced the fervent support.

Arsenal midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he got on the end of a superb long ball from Gunners teammate Jack Wilshere before Rooney doubled the advantage two minutes into the second half when heading home expertly.

Talented Scotland youngster Robertson pulled one back for his side in the 83rd minute but it was Rooney who scored another timely goal for England when netting his 46th international goal to go third on his country's all-time scorers list.

It was another strong performance from Roy Hodgson's men who got the better of Slovenia 3-1 in a Euro2016 qualifier on Saturday while Gordon Strachan's side would have liked a more positive result after beating Republic of Ireland 1-0 on the weekend.
