Manchester United youngster Federico Macheda has risked a hostile dressing room reception by pouring more disdain and scorn on teammate Wayne Rooney.
The Italian teenager had described Rooney as 'coatto', a slang Italian term for a chav, and although he backtracked on that comment, he did label the England striker as 'working class and vulgar'.
"Rooney is a really great person," Macheda said from the Italy Under-21 camp, ahead of tonight's game with Belarus.
"He always gives me advice. But he's a bit working class and vulgar.
"When I used the term 'coatto', which is Roman slang, I didn't mean any offence to Wayne.
"I have the utmost respect and admiration for him. I just used it to mean how he's down to earth and friendly.
"I have already sent a text to Rio Ferdinand, to clarify my words with Wayne, and Rio has assured me there is no problem."
