Sir Alex Ferguson was big enough to help Jesper Blomqvist make the move from Manchester United to Everton back in 2001.
Swedish midfielder Blomqvist suffered a serious knee injury during his time at Old Trafford which commenced in the treble-winning 1998/99 season and ended a few years later after he was unable to get himself back on the pitch regularly.
Blomqvist recalls the conversation he had with Ferguson prior to his exit and spoke fondly of the Scottish tactician who assisted him in making the move to Goodison Park to play under Walter Smith.
"I remember that last discussion because I felt quite guilty," he told the Daily Mail.
"I had been injured for so long and they kept paying the wages. He said 'don't worry, this is football - you gave me one excellent year and we won everything'.
"When he said that it was as though a stone fell off my heart. It meant a lot to me that he could feel like that.
"Of course he phoned Water Smith and helped me to get a deal with Everton - it spoke volumes of him."
