Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has been ruled out of the England squad for upcoming friendlies with Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
A calf injury has forced Cleverley to withdraw from Roy Hodgson's roster as the Three Lions prepare to take on Ireland at Wembley on May 29 before heading to the Maracana to meet Brazil four days later.
That leaves Hodgson with just a trio of recognised central midfielders in Frank Lampard, Jack Rodwell and Michael Carrick as skipper Steven Gerrard and young gun Jack Wilshere are also injured.
