Man Utd legend Yorke confident title will be won back, Rooney will bounce back

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke is backing Wayne Rooney to shake off his dismal World Cup campaign.

Yorke, who won the Treble with the Old Trafford club back in 1999, does not expect that setback to stop the 24-year-old star taking the Premier League by storm again next season.

Yorke, 38, told the Sunday Mirror: "United will win it. They will get the title back. Sir Alex will get a record 19th title.

"United did miss Ronaldo last season, but Rooney is now at the forefront, and he is the man to inspire them in the coming season."

Yorke, currently Down Under in Sydney for a farewell game for Sydney FC for whom he played in the Australian A-League, was mystified by Rooney's World Cup showing, when he failed to score a single goal.

He added: "The pressure should have been no different from what Wayne has with Manchester United.

"But it can be hard to maintain form in the World Cup. You have to step it up a peg or two.

"He is still a class player though and will bounce back. People will always question a player's performance, but I don't doubt his ability.

"England's performance wasn't great. So much hype was put on to them - and it got to them.

"They played nowhere near expectation. I can't reveal too much as I'm close to some of the guys in camp. But the passion is still there."
