Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has blasted Manchester City for comparing Paul Scholes' recall with the AWOL Carlos Tevez. City brought Tevez back from exile after the Argentine striker was suspended and fined for his refusal to follow Roberto Mancini's orders at Bayern Munich in September.

Robbo told the Manchester Evening News: "Even trying to compare Paul Scholes with a Tevez, with the character that Scholes is, is just a nonsense.

"Not wanting to play and going off to Argentina for months was bad for football, bad for City and for the fans. He let everybody down."

Robson says City should have held firm with their stance.

"If you say he will never play for the club again - if that is your principle - then that's what your principle should be."
