Man Utd legend Beckham: England captaincy was Capello's call

Manchester United and England legend David Beckham says the FA were wrong to take the captaincy decision out of Fabio Capello's hands.

LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham offered his support for Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp as England's next coach, saying: "Harry's a great man, great manager."

Beckham also said he was disappointed to see Fabio Capello depart in the wake of the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

"It's sad he stepped down at a critical stage for England," said the 36-year-old.

"He's a manager I respect a lot." Asked if the captaincy should be decided by the coach or the FA, Beckham said: "Coach's call. You know I think that's always the case."
