Man Utd keeper Heaton proud after Carabao Cup win against Charlton

Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton was happy to be involved for their Carabao Cup quarterfinal win against Charlton.

Heaton is determined to not get carried away, taking things one game at a time.

“The aim tonight was to be in the hat. We'll take it one game at a time," he told club media after the game.

“We've got plenty of games before that comes, the focus will now move to Saturday [against Manchester City] and, when the semi-final comes around, we'll take that."

Heaton played behind both Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez - on the Argentinian's first start since becoming a World Cup champion - against our visitors from south London.

The United keeper said he 'really enjoyed' playing alongside the pair, adding: “We kept it tight for most of the night and had some awkward opponents in there, a couple of big lads coming on at the end.

“But I thought we did really well and it was a really good performance."

Tuesday evening also marked Heaton's first start for the Reds, something which he 'really enjoyed'.

“Opportunities have been difficult to come by," he admitted.

“It was slightly frustrating not to play in the previous round, I had a little injury - bad timing - and Martin [Dubravka] played well in that game.

“But, thankfully, I was on the teamsheet tonight and, hopefully, there will be more to come."
