Midfielder Juan Mata has expressed his desire to win trophies with Manchester United next season and beyond.

Following a difficult debut season at Old Trafford, Mata enjoyed a fruitful campaign last term and his contribution went a long way in helping the Red Devils earn a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Earning a place back in Europe's premier club competition has been considered a commendable achievement for United but Mata is aiming higher next season and has expressed his desire to help the Red Devils challenge for silverware.

Speaking to the club's official website, Mata said: "I think this season was a big step towards where this club deserves to be.

"We had a new manager with a new philosophy and we brought in new players. Next season we will hopefully play in the Champions League, which is a massive objective for the club, and we'll be trying to win trophies."
