Man Utd hero Whiteside: Van Gaal WILL deliver the goods

Former Manchester United FA Cup winner Norman Whiteside insists manager Louis van Gaal is the right man for the job.

Whiteside, who scored for United in their 1983 and 1985 Cup Final wins over Brighton and Everton, trusts Dutch ace Van Gaal, to deliver success on a constant basis - but only if he is given time.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "In my mind there is no doubt United will qualify for the Champions League next season. It has been a bit of a roller coaster here and there and they have lost some games at Old Trafford they should not have.

"Now people think, 'If Swansea or Southampton can beat them there then we can do it too'.

"Not long ago, Swansea and Southampton were teams you were guaranteed three points against, regardless of where you were in the league.

"But I still think LVG can pull it out of the bag this season.

"He can deliver the goods. He has the personality for the job as well as the experience.

"Certainly David Moyes didn't know how much pressure was involved when he came to Old Trafford. But LVG has managed big clubs in Europe - Ajax, Bayern Munich, Barcelona."
