Manchester United hero Gary Pallister is excited by the potential long-term defensive pairing of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Pallister sees the arrival of former Blackburn Rovers man Phil Jones, 19, to play alongside Chris Smalling, 21, as the future of the club - although first they'll have to dump Rio Ferdinand and current skipper Nemanja Vidic out of the team.
Pally told the Daily Star Sunday: "Smalling looks like a level- headed lad and he has something worth nurturing.
"Phil Jones is the same. And both have access at United to something I never had. Now behind the scenes there are people who know the club inside out, ready to pass on all their knowledge.
"There is Brian McClair, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Mike Phelan, plus the gaffer. They will be a huge help.
"Sir Alex is spending and knows that Rio and Nemanja can't go on forever. But now they have Evans, Smalling and Jones as the future."
