Manchester United fullback Guillermo Varela has suffered a serious injury on-loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.
He has made three appearances for the German club so far this term but is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
During Frankfurt's 1-0 defeat to Darmstadt on Saturday, Varela collided with striker Sven Schipplock and damaged his ankle ligaments.
The young full-back had to be substituted after just seven minutes and could now be out until the winter break, the Manchester Evening News report.
Eintracht sporting director Fredi Bobic told Kicker: "I immediately had a bad feeling. It was a very unnecessary tackle."
