Man Utd end pursuit of Cavani and Cesc

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

The Daily Star says new boss Louis Van Gaal has no interest in him.

Cavani told United he would only join them provided they put him on the same £300,000-a-week wages as England star Wayne Rooney.

But chief executive Ed Woodward is not prepared to meet his wage demands and has also admitted defeat in his attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.

Fabregas has been on United's hit-list for more than 12 months, but Van Gaal has decided to turn his attentions elsewhere.

Van Gaal told Woodward to make enquiries about Fabregas, but his £45m asking price and high wages have proved a stumbling block.
