Manchester United have opened talks this week for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.

Le 10 Sport says United are in contact with Barca for the World Cup winner as an alternative to No1 defensive target Harry Maguire, of Leicester City.

United have informed Barca they'd be willing to pay €50m for Umtiti, while the Catalans want €60m to sell.

It's been suggested Barca would be prepared to compromise over the Frenchman's fee.

While in talks with Leicester, United have been quoted €100m for Maguire.
