Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is urging Roma coach Paulo Fonseca to do what he can to keep him.
The on-loan Smalling has his heart set on prolonging his spell in the Eternal City and has made his feelings clear to the hierarchy, who are now 'working on a solution' to agree a deal with United, says Corriere dello Sport.
Only a few days ago the England international held discussions with Fonseca, who views him as 'the leader of the defence', and told him of his wish to secure a long term deal with Roma.
The club are hopeful of a discount on the player in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, the report adds - although United have not dropped their £20million valuation.
He has started 28 games for the club in all competitions, including 21 out of 26 league games, scoring twice and grabbing an assist.
