Manchester United defender Chris Smalling says he had no intention of hurting Lionel Messi.
The United centre-back caught Messi with a trailing arm in the Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday night, which resulted in a bloody nose and other complications for the Barcelona attacker.
However, he says that it was an accident and there is no animosity between him and the Argentine.
"We spoke afterwards. We had a brief chat and shook hands," Smalling, 29, told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.
"He knew it was an accident."
