Manchester United defender Phil Jones sees himself as a centre-half.

Jones' versatility has led to a variety of roles since his transfer from Blackburn, with Sir Alex Ferguson using him at right-back and in midfield, as well as in central defence.

"I have maintained all along that centre half is where I feel most comfortable," he said.

"I understand and read the game better there. I will play wherever I am asked to, but certainly it was not a problem playing alongside Chris in the middle of defence.

"We have been centre backs together for England under-21s, and we know and understand each other's game."
