Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is emerging as favourite for the club captaincy.
The Sunday Express says the 26-year-old has played 181 games for United and is expected to become an integral part of Louis Van Gaal's defence in the new 3-4-1-2 formation he will utilise.
Robin van Persie had been widely expected to accept the captain's armband under Van Gaal whom he shares a close relationship with.
But fresh reports suggest Van Gaal won't be rushed into a decision.
It is thought he will have a captain in place by the time United take on Swansea at Old Trafford in a fortnight's time.
It is also believed Van Gaal has been impressed by Evans and is giving his candidacy some serious thought.
