Man Utd coach Neville: Sir Alex invited me to his home - and told me I was going to Everton!

Manchester United coach Phil Neville has recalled the moment Sir Alex Ferguson discussed selling him to Everton.

Rejoining the club in August brought him full-circle and evoked the day Ferguson invited him to his home in 2005 to discuss a prospective move to Everton.

"I think he [Ferguson] found it more difficult than I did. I thought it was a magical moment where I was sat in the front room of Sir Alex Ferguson's house and he was plotting the next stage of my career," Neville told the Telegraph.

"He wasn't cold about it. I could have stayed at Man United but he saw what it was doing to me not playing and he wanted to help me. And yet it affected my wife, it affected my mum and dad, it affected my brother. My brother came with me, he was so worried about me.

"But I see that as one of the most special moments of my career, because you've got probably the greatest manager, and I'm in his front room drinking a cup of tea made by his wife and it's as if I'm talking to my dad. My wife was in Cathy [Ferguson's] arms crying her eyes out."
