Man Utd coach Carrick: I owe Mourinho so much

Manchester United assistant coach Michael Carrick has paid tribute to Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Carrick was coaching at the club during Mourinho's toxic final few months but says he'll always appreciate being given the chance to learn from one of Europe's top managers after he retired from playing in the summer of 2018.

"I have got a lot to thank him (Mourinho) for. He knows that," says Carrick. "He gave me an opportunity with the coaching, the next chapter if you like. I will always be grateful for that. It wasn't something he had to do, it was his choice.

"For what he has achieved, there is no way I couldn't learn from him. It was my first time coaching as well so it was all new to me. To have him there and guide me as he did then, obviously I am all the better for that."
