Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney insists they didn't deserve defeat to Southampton yesterday.
Speaking to MUTV and Sky Sports, Rooney expressed the view that the outcome could have been very different if the Reds had converted some good chances.
"I think we deserved to win the game, but that's football," he said. "Overall we had the better chances and played the better football, but we were punished for not taking our chances.
"I thought we stopped their threats for the majority of the game, but they had one chance in the second half and they took it," he continued.
"We created three great chances late on and we had a few in the first half too. Southampton defended well but we were the better team and we feel we deserved more from the game."
Sunday's defeat was United's first in 12 games and Rooney feels the Reds need to regroup quickly and look ahead to Queens Park Rangers in next Saturday's away fixture.
"Losing at Old Trafford is always disappointing, but we can't think about what could have been. We have to move on and start our preparations for our next game."
