Man Utd captain Fernandes deflects praise for wonder strike

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes's long-range strike on Wednesday night pleased many fans.

The Portuguese stunned the crowd with a left-footed effort from outside the box to give United a 3-2 lead against Sheffield United.

Having twice been behind, the Red Devils won 4-2, with Fernandes scoring twice and grabbing an assist.

“I think, obviously it's a great strike, but I think the team [contribution] was great. That makes the space bigger," he told MUTV.

“When they [Sheffield United] have the lines so deep, we need a lot of movements to make the space bigger, and we had many movements there on the right side, passing the ball.

“Then the ball from Kobbie [Mainoo] is on the right time. He called me. That's something that is really important in football. He called me 'time' so I can turn.

“And when I turn, Rasmus [Hojlund] does a movement wide where he attracts the midfielder.

“And then another two movements to pin their last line back, that is, from Diogo [Dalot] and Garna [Alejandro Garnacho]. That gives me more space to hit the target."
